Pre-Conference Workshop
Myofascial Pain Syndrome of the Upper Limb (Assessment and Treatment)
Dates: Wednesday, 22 and Thursday, 23 October 2008

Venue: Glenlife Training Centre, Melbourne (Glenlife Training Centre, 333 Heidelberg Road, Northcote)

Return coach transfer to the workshop venue will be provided. Pick up is from the Hilton on the Park
This two-day workshop is designed for therapists practicing in the area of upper limb rehabilitation and pain management.
Participants will be introduced to theoretical and practical aspects of the diagnosis of Myofascial Pain.
The prevalence of Myofascial Pain in both acute and chronic upper limb pain will be discussed, and the contribution of Myofascial pain to common clinical diagnosis will also be valuated.
Common clinical syndromes that will be covered include:
1) Thoracic Outlet Syndrome
2) Frozen Shoulder
3) Lateral Elbow pain
4) Carpel Tunnel Syndrome
5) Tendonosis
Many treatment techniques will be taught and practiced including soft tissue manipulation, myofascial release, manual trigger point technique and muscle energy technique.

Professor Bill Vicenzino
Professor Vicenzino is the first Chair of Sports Physiotherapy and head of the Division of Physiotherapy in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Queensland. His research activity focuses on the pressing need for an evidence base for current and evolving approaches to diagnosis, rehabilitation and management of musculoskeletal pain and injury. Bill has researched these aspects in lateral epicondylalgia and will present current findings from his research unit and of others at this conference. Bill has communicated findings from his research in over 90 peer-reviewed publications and over 120 workshops, seminars and conference presentations.
